A total of 1,575,472 passengers travelled between Malta and Gozo during the second quarter of 2019, statistics released by the National Statistics Office (NSO) show.
This represents an increase in sea travel of 2.6% when compared with the same period of 2018.
June saw the highest number of passengers, at 534,433, or 33.9% of total passengers for the quarter.
Those who chose to use their car also increased when compared with the second quarter of 2018, representing an increase of 7.5%. In total, the number of vehicles which crossed between Malta and Gozo during the second quarter of 2019 stood at 454,818.
In total, the number of vessel trips (ferry trips) also increased, reaching 6,289. This represents an increase of 8.9% when compared with the same period in 2019. The majority of trips took place in June, at 2,318, or 36.9% of total trips taken for the quarter.
Between the months of January and June, traffic coming from Cirkewwa towards Mgarr was worst on Fridays and Saturdays, while the same can be said for Saturdays and Sundays from Mgarr towards Cirkewwa.
