“Contactless Payments are slowly becoming the new norm as more people seek to use them because they are both fast and efficient. It is therefore, so great to see that our members are taking an interest in discovering what they can do to make their business more attractive to existing and potential clients.”
These were the opening words of Perit David Xuereb, President of The Malta Chamber, as he introduced a webinar on Contactless Payments. The webinar gave an insight into the opportunities that contactless payments offer business and their clients.
“Throughout the past years we have seen a steady shift towards electronic payments, but never more so than during the COVID-19 pandemic. As more consumers demanded safer contactless payment methods, businesses, who traditionally were resistant to non-cash transactions, started adopting digital payments,” stated Franco Xuereb, Executive Electronic Banking at Bank of Valletta.
Mr Xuereb added that “Bank of Valletta has always been at the forefront of this sector, offering a range of e-commerce solutions based on the enterprise requirements. All our EPOS terminals have now been converted to contactless and consumers can also opt to transition to BOV Pay, Apple Pay and Garmin Pay by simply uploading their contactless cards on their devices. Our BOV Mobile to Mobile payments also provide retailers with further options on how to accept payments.”
“Exciting times lie ahead with more innovative technologies that address the needs of both businesses and consumers. Payments will become simpler and faster and locally we will continue moving towards a more cashless society. At Bank of Valletta we have more innovations planned, with the release of another new highly convenient feature on our BOV Mobile App coming soon!” concluded Mr Xuereb.
From a poll taken during the webinar, 50% of the participants have stated that they still do not utilize Contactless Payments in their business. The Malta Chamber is proud to have given its members the opportunity to discover more about the topic and hope that they become excited about taking the necessary steps to adapt to opportunities as they arise.
The webinar was also addressed by Mr Ray Bezzina, BOV Manager of e-Commerce.
