Government needs to extend COVID-19 Wage Supplement Scheme to operators in tourism industry

The Tourism Business Section Executive Committee met with the Minister of Tourism and Consumer Protection, Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli to report the challenges the industry has been facing during these unprecedented times.

The Tourism Business Section Executive Committee met with the Minister of Tourism and Consumer Protection, Hon. Julia Farrugia Portelli to report the challenges the industry has been facing during these unprecedented times.

Chairperson of the Executive Committee, Mr Ian Fitzpatrick, reiterated the fact that communication between the Malta Chamber and the Authorities needs to remain consistent.

During the meeting, the Executive Committee highlighted the need for the Maltese Government to extend the COVID-19 Wage Supplement Scheme beyond the current timeframe for those operating in the tourism industry. Hon. Minister Farrugia Portelli vouched that the Government shall be assessing the situation as it progresses.

The Executive Committee members present for the meeting were Mr Ian Fitzpatrick, Mr Alan Arrigo, Ms Genevieve Abela, Mr Iain Tonna, Mr Louis Olivieri, Mr Ivan Mifsud and Mr Kevin Vella. Hon. Julia Farrugia was accompanied by MTA CEO Mr Johann Buttigieg and the Permanent Secretary Mr Ronald Mizzi.
