On Tuesday 18th August, The Malta Chamber of Commerce met with the Deputy Prime Minister Hon. Minister Mr Chris Fearne, accompanied by the Ministry’s Chief of Staff, Mr Lorenzo Vella, Superintendent of Health Dr Charmaine Gauci, Pharmacy of Your Choice (POYC) CEO Ms Isabelle Vella and Foundation for Medical Services (FMS) Ms Carmen Ciantar.
Perit David Xuereb led the Malta Chamber’s delegation composed of the Director General Mr Kevin J. Borg, Chairperson of the Healthcare Business Section, Mr Robert Magri, Deputy Chairperson Ms Giulia Attard Montalto and Chairperson of the Importers and Distributers Economic Group Mr Marcel K. Mifsud.
Mr Magri affirmed that the Healthcare Business Section has very good working relationship with the various sections of the Department of Health. However, certain challenges, such as issues relating to tendering, have arisen due to this pandemic, and require a high level of attention.
Mr Magri said, “The current procurement system is not reflecting the current instability of the market and this makes it difficult for economic operators to comply with their tendering contracts and for economic operators to tender going forward. Therefore, the Maltese Government must implement some necessary measures, with the ultimate aim of ensuring that the end-user, the patient, is given the best care and treatment possible.”
Deputy Fearne noted the points brought forward by the Malta Chamber and insisted that the two entities must continue forging a good relationship, and to strengthen dialogue.
Perit Xuereb thanked Deputy Fearne and his team for his efforts throughout this challenging period and confirmed that the Malta Chamber is here to assist the authorities when possible.
