IMPORTERS, DISTRIBUTORS AND RETAILERS ECONOMIC GROUP – ELECTIONS 2021
Members are informed that six members submitted their nomination for election to the Executive Board of the Importers, Distributors and Retailers Economic Group. In accordance with Rule 6.2(f) of the Chamber’s Statute these members are deemed to be elected to the Council and the Executive Boards of the Economic Group, and elections for this Economic Group will not be held. The following members will therefore serve on the Executive Board and Council for 2021-2023.
Mark Bajada married to Caroline Bajada and father of two children.
A Leading business thinker and doer with, high energy in the innovation and optimization element.
Mark has gained a reputation in the Maltese market though his strong values and ethical principles which he manages to transmit through his businesses. Very mindful and always driven by the ultimate purpose of doing something right and not just financially good
Back in the 1990s, he was been the pioneer in importing and installing the first renewable products which since then have grown exponentially with the element of climatical issues present; for the last three decades has been instrumental in leading a number of companies who led the market through innovation and constant evolution in this dynamic needs.
Mark can highly contribute to the council to add a fresh and forward vision in the current situation.
As CEO of Debono Group, Geoffrey has driven the company through a significant transformation which put at the core of its operations the creation of innovative solutions to address society’s mobility challenges whilst ensuring customer needs are met at all times.
Having set the business on a strong footing through the strengthening of its core operations, he is now spearheading an ambitious transition towards multiple mobility solutions, seeking to improve quality of life through reduced congestion and pollution. This includes the development of sustainable solutions such as ride-sharing, through Cool, and car or scooter-sharing through GoTo and the setup of an innovation lab to explore new technology-driven solutions to come up with new products which will be sold internationally.
Geoffrey graduated from the University of Malta and London Business School in business and entrepreneurship. He is also an active member of the Young Presidents’ Organisation (YPO), which he joined aged 24.
Andrew Mamo is Managing Director of Galdes & Mamo Ltd, importer and supplier of a wide range of Automotive, Boat care, DIY and Woodwork products representing a number of top brands. He has been a member of the Malta Chamber since 1990.
Mr Mamo has served regularly on Council since 2001 and as an Officer from 2003 to 2013 as well as on a number of other Executive Committees.
Between 2015 and 2017 he was Chairman of the Importers, Distributors and Retailers Economic Group, and for the last two years, he has served as The Malta Chamber Vice-President.
Mr. Mamo is one of the Malta Chamber's representatives on the Conservatorio Vincenzo Bugeja.
Marcel K. Mifsud is a Director of Pharma-Cos Limited, a leading family business in the healthcare and retail sectors established in 1974.
Marcel became a member of the Malta Chamber in 1993 and has since always actively contributed to the initiatives of the Healthcare Business Section.
Marcel actively represented the Business Section within the Public Procurement Task force which recently published a report that has been well received both by Government and the Director of Contracts.
Following his co-option to the Importers, Distributors and Retailers Economic Group Executive Board in 2019, Marcel has chaired the Economic Group and has tirelessly assisted all members in this group who face unprecedented challenges due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Marcel is currently leading the establishment of a diverse and well represented Retail Business Section that can truly serve as a platform to tackle this essential sector’s agenda within the Malta Chamber and beyond.
VASSALLO CESAREO CHRISTOPHER
Christopher Vassallo Cesareo BA Hons (Marketing) born in 1970, husband of Katia nee’ Cuschieri and father of two boys Jack and Alexander. Following his junior years studying at De La Salle College, he furthered his studies at the University of Boston and graduated in Marketing.
On his return to Malta, he was employed as Sales and Marketing Manager with Domestica Limited a family-owned business which was setup in the seventies. His career at Domestica Limited flourished and in 2006 he was appointed as managing director.
Mr Vassallo Cesareo has been a Council member of the Malta Chamber since 2013.
He is also currently Chairman of JAYE Malta Foundation, Vice Chairman on the San Anton School Board and a member of the Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St John of Jerusalem.
Charles A. Zahra has run the family business, E. Theuma & Company Ltd, since the early 1990’s importing and exporting various raw materials from textiles to paper to marble, granite and stone.
For the past ten years, Mr. Zahra has sat on the Council of the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry and has served on the Board of Management in the past. He has also served on various committees within the Malta Chamber, including the Importers Trade Section, the Textiles and Wearing Apparel Trade Section, the Electoral Commission and the Commission Agents Trade Section which he chaired for a number of years. Mr. Zahra represented the Chamber on the Building Industry Consultative Council, MEUSAC and Malta Employers’ Association.
He has served as a director on the Malta Business Foundation, is serving as a director of the Trade Fairs Corporation and the Fairs and Exhibitions Ltd and sits on the Importers Business Section Executive Committee.
In February 2021, Mr. Zahra was appointed Consul for the Republic of Malawi. He was also a Council member of Maltese Italian Chamber of Commerce for various years. He has served as Chairman of the Vintage Vehicles Classification Committee within Transport Malta for many years and has sat on other Boards within this authority. Since 1998 he has been the Chairman of the Federazzjoni Maltija Vetturi Antiki.
