With 129 pharmacists for every 100,000 inhabitants, Malta has the highest number of practising pharmacists in the EU.
Figures published by Eurostat, the official statistics agency of the EU, showed that Malta was followed by Belgium (121), Spain (119) and Italy (115).
The majority of EU member states reported 50 - 110 pharmacists per 100,000 inhabitants.
The sole outlying country was the Netherlands, which at just 21 pharmacists for every 100,000 inhabitants was below this range.
On the other hand, when it comes to dentistry, Malta is close to the bottom of the charts, with just 48 dentists for every 100,000 inhabitants, beaten only by Poland (33).
The best teeth should be found in Greece, Bulgaria and Cyprus, with 123, 105, and 103 dentists for every 100,000 citizens, respectively.
The majority of EU member states have between 60 and 90 dentists per 100,000 inhabitants.
