Mr Francois Grech - Chairperson
Mr Francois Grech is tech entrepreneur with over 20 years’ experience in corporate IT strategy, digital transformation, application of innovative technology and solution delivery. He is a founding partner and Managing Director of Exigy, one of Malta’s leading software companies, where he has successfully led large-scale public and private technology transformation projects in Malta, UK, Italy and Germany. Francois serves as a board member on a number of tech companies, operating locally and internationally.
Francois serves as the Chairman of the IT Business Section within the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where he liaisons with Government on matters related to the development and evolution of the ICT Industry in Malta.
Francois is passionate about innovative technology and how it can be applied to solve business challenges within an organisation. He graduated from the University of Malta in 1997/98 and is a regular contributor to various tech publications and local and international events.
Mr Gordon Micallef - Deputy Chairperson
Mr Gordon Micallef is a Partner at a leading accounting and advisory firm responsible for Business and Technology Consulting services. He has over twenty years experience in Digital Strategy, Customer Experience, and Cyber Risks services.
He directs a multi-discipline team delivering process improvement, risk management, and project management services across various industries and has extensive experience in helping organisations bridge the gap between business and IT, manage the change, and deliver digital transformation.
Gordon is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified in Enterprise Governance of IT (CGEIT), and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC), and Prince2 Practitioner.
Mr Paul Baldacchino
Mr Paul Baldacchino is a seasoned executive with more than 30 years’ experience in IT. He is a Chartered IT professional and member of several IT Societies. Paul is currently CEO of DataTech Consulting Limited a Maltese company that specialises in the design and implementation of enterprise solutions using SAP products.
When he is not actively managing the company, Paul spends his time contributing to the advancement of the IT profession. For the last 25 years Paul has delivered presentations, led courses and also conducted speeches in public and private events.
As a member of the executive committee his intention is to assure that the IT profession continues to develop and assure that companies, entrepreneurs and IT professionals have the opportunity to realise their goals.
Mr Simon Montanaro
Simon Montanaro joined Melita at its inception in 1991 and has been its Chief Technology Officer (CTO) since 2009. Simon leads the teams managing Melita’s ICT platforms, the strategic development of Melita’s technology capabilities and service portfolio including its rapidly evolving corporate interests.
Montanaro said, “It’s a privilege to be elected to the Executive Committee of The Malta Chamber’s Information & Communications Technology Business Section. I believe that this team can help the Chamber make important contributions to local society and business particularly in respect of helping bridge the gap between commercial and technical opportunities. Areas of interest include 5G, the Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence and Virtual/Augmented Reality together with the supporting environment needed for collective success in these fields. I look forward to working together with my fellow committee members to help bring these opportunities closer to Malta’s economy and society.“
Mr Joseph Roland Scerri
With 20 years experience in the IT industry and a MSc in Information Systems Management and a BCS Certificate in IS Consultancy Practice, Roland has served in a number of senior roles before assuming his current role of Deputy CEO of Loqus Group.
Roland is instrumental in the growth strategy and operations of the Loqus Group and has extensive experience in the logistics market.
Roland has led and developed multi-year projects for both public and private sector with a specific focus on international growth.
Mr Bjorn Azzopardi - Co-Opted
A software engineer at heart and driven by the love of creating software Bjorn founded Think in 2003 with the vision of creating a tech based agency with a focus on UI and UX. AS CEO bjorn leads a team of creatives and techies helping clients develop digital products amongst other ancillary services. Bjorn also holds the CEO position in a startup venture where Think over the last three years used its knowhow in digital products to develop its own product. Loyale is a mobile first loyalty platform which is POS independent. Large companies both local and foreign have implemented this solution successfully. Following the positive validation in the market, Loyale is currently in the process of going down the SaaS route.
He is a father of two and loves spending time with his wife and kids. In his spare time, he loves sports mostly cycling and running which helps him clear his mind from the daily business routine.
Mr Philip Cortis - Co-Opted
Mr Philip B Cortis, is a seasoned ICT Professional with more then 28 years of experience in the corporate world since he started very early as self-employed, with the first customer, an electronics factory at the age of 16. In 2020, he founded Micro Technology Consultancy Ltd, and ever since managed, which today operates in multiple areas, including ICT Distribution, Infrastructure, VoIP and Software development.
Philip formal education is in Electronics but moved into IT at the age of 14 where he studied Software Analysis and Programming. Later he became certified in Business Productivity. Philip is also certified Trainer for DCIE certifications, which training opens on an annual bases.
Philip has served as PRO of the Haz-Zebbug Business Association and as of recently he is a Member of the ICT Executive Committee within the Malta Chamber of Commerce, Enterprise and Industry.
Philip is a husband and father of 3 wonderful girls. Philip’s passion is technology.
Ms Julia Aquilina - Policy Development Executive
A graduate in European Studies with Communications, Julia continued her studies reading for a Master of Arts in Public Policy Leadership. She joined The Malta Chamber two years ago as a Policy Development Executive and coordinates a number of business sections including the Tech Business Section and the Digital Transformation Thematic Committee, and is also the liaison with Tech.MT.
