Robert Abela has officially been sworn in as Malta’s 14th Prime Minister on Monday afternoon at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace in Valletta.
Dr Abela, a lawyer by profession, is the son of President Emeritus George Abela. Dr Abela was elected as Prime Minister and leader of the Labour Party after paid-up members of the latter participated in a vote over the weekend.
Former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat was in attendance of the swearing in ceremony, along with most members of Cabinet.
A number of Dr Abela’s supporters gathered in St Geroge’s Square as a show of support to Malta’s new Prime Minister.
