Meraki Wine and Dine is an exciting recent addition to the Maltese culinary scene. This restaurant is located in the idyllic village of Rabat, and has been serving mouth-watering dishes to customer since opening its doors in June 2018. Meraki derives its name from a modern Greek word that is used to describe something that is done with soul, creativity, or love. And it is with this same outlook that the team at Vivendo Hospitality approached this project.

When Vivendo set foot in this restaurant, the place was still relatively in shell form. The team consisted of customised specialist, Alicia, who worked on the design of the space, while Marthese Aquilina, Vivendo hospitality specialist, sourced the furniture required. The team managed most aspects of the project, including gypsum work, carpentry, and the selection and procuring of tables and chairs.

Dino Farrugia, owner and Head Chef of Meraki Wine and Dine, was overseeing the coordination of all other aspects of the restaurant. He approached Vivendo Hospitality after receiving numerous recommendations about their work, and scheduled a meeting to discuss the company’s involvement in setting up his business. “It only took me one meeting with their team to confirm that they are in fact very professional with their work,” emphasised Mr Farrugia.

When working on such a project, setting and meeting deadlines is a crucial ingredient for success. In fact, the Vivendo team agreed on all deliverables with Mr Farrugia so that their work did not interfere with other ongoing tasks at the restaurant. Another key element to the success of the design of the interior and furniture of this venue is precision. Both Alicia and Marthese took extra care to ensure that all bespoke pieces fit into the design down to each millimetre.

In order to present Meraki Wine and Dine as a rustic and warm venue that complements the special food menus created by the Head Chef, the team decided on engaging local carpenters to finish the space with wood. In addition, they also supplied the restaurant with 16 custom dining tables and 38 custom chairs, which were specifically designed for this venue.

Vivendo Hospitality is part of the Vivendo Group portfolio of brands, which caters especially to the needs of the hospitality market in Malta. The company taps into the group’s strong capacity and experience of working on hospitality projects, including custom-made projects and outfitting of high-end hotels, to deliver a strategic and complete service to hoteliers and other stakeholders in the hospitality industry.
